Nungwi is a large fishing village located on the northern end of the island of
Zanzibar. It is situated in Kaskazini, a district belonging to the north region of
Unguja. Until the early 90s, the village’s economy was based primarily on fishing
and dhow building. The dhow is a traditional sailing vessel. With the growing
popularity, the village has seen a sharp rise in the tourist population visiting the
place each year.
Buggy rides have become a very popular activity for tourists. Each buggy trip can
last for 3 hours during which tourists get to ride in off-road buggies, wherein
which they can visit fishing neighborhoods, lush plantation areas, off-road trails
and traditional dhow making centers.

which is a conservation site for turtles. There is a lagoon in this conservation area
